Four Ukrainian soldiers were killed in Sumy region near the border with Russia. It happened on 25 August, when an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group tried to infiltrate the territory of Ukraine.

The heroes served in the 101st Separate Territorial Defence Brigade. According to information from open sources, they gave their lives for their country:

- Oleksandr Marchuk, senior rifleman;

- Ihor Kasyanchyk, assistant grenade launcher;

- Oleksandr Matviychuk, a grenade launcher;

- Mykola Brovchuk, squad leader.

Marchuk, Kasyanchyk and Matviychuk were from the Varash district of Rivne region. The mayor of Varash, Oleksandr Menzul, posted on his Facebook page that the tragedy occurred between the villages of Khodyno and Myshutyno (Hlukhiv district, Sumy region).

Servicemen of the 101st separate territorial defence brigade came under mortar fire during a battle with a sabotage and reconnaissance group of Russian occupation forces, the official said.

Oleksandr Marchuk, a 32-year-old senior soldier, was born in Varash, Rivne region. He is a computer operator by profession.

He joined the army in 2015-2016 and took part in the ATO as part of the 54th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa. In 2018, he served for six months as an assistant grenade launcher in the 14th separate mechanised brigade named after Prince Roman the Great.

On 27 February, 2022, he was mobilised to defend Ukraine, first as a machine gunner in the 104th separate brigade of the Territorial Defence. He fought in Bakhmut. In the 101st separate brigade of territorial defence he served as a senior shooter-operator in the rifle company.

Soldier Ihor Kasyanchyk was 29 years old and also from the town of Varash. He was an electrical engineer by profession. The man had recently got married.

He joined the service from the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion, at his own request. Initially, he was a rifleman with the 104th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade, and in June 2023 he was transferred to the 101st Separate Territorial Defence Brigade as a grenade launcher in the rifle company. Ihor is survived by his young wife and parents.

25-year-old senior soldier Oleksandr Matviychuk was born in Zabolottya, Rivne region. He graduated as an electrician.

From 2018 to 2021, he served as a senior firefighter at an artillery ammunition base. During 2019-2020, he participated in the ATO/JFO. On 26 February 2022, he was mobilised to defend Ukraine and enlisted in the 104th separate brigade of the logistics company. He served in the 101st Separate Territorial Defence Brigade as a grenade launcher. His father serves in the same brigade, and his brother serves in the military unit 3045.

Oleksandr Matviychuk gave his life for Ukraine

Brovchuk Mykola Stepanovych, the commander of the rifle division of the military unit A7081, was a native of Zakarpattia. He was born on 14.07.1976 in the village of Chorna Tysa, and lived in the village of Kvasy, Yasinya territorial community. This was reported by local authorities on Facebook.

It is known that the Ukrainian had the rank of sergeant. "The hero laid down his life for Ukraine, for its peaceful and independent future," the community said.

- Yevhen Mitin, a 21-year-old soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Kherson region, died the death of the brave. He joined the Defence Forces after completing his military service. He was the only son of his parents.

- Also killed at the front was 21-year-old National Guard soldier Mykola Fedyk from the town of Tysmenytsia in Prykarpattia. He was a junior sergeant and a squad leader.
