Former Ukrainian footballer Volodymyr Danyliuk has died at the age of 77, according to the press service of Karpaty, Yurii Nazarkevych. Danyliuk played for Karpaty from 1966 to 1978, becoming the top scorer in the history of the Lviv club.

In July 2023, he suffered from a nighttime Russian missile attack on Lviv. After the shock wave, Danyliuk's apartment was left without windows and doors. Volodymyr Oleksandrovych was helped out of the destroyed building by his wife.

Danyliuk was a pupil of Naftovyk Drohobych, where he scored 9 goals in three months in the B class competition. In 1965, he was invited to Lviv's Karpaty. Due to a broken leg, the 19-year-old striker was unable to show all his scoring abilities in his debut season.

From the 1968 season, he became a regular on the first team, winning the championship in his subgroup with Karpaty, scoring 80 goals in 40 matches. The following year, he and his team won the USSR Cup.

This victory allowed Karpaty to represent the USSR in the Cup Winners' Cup of the 1970/1971 season. In the first round (1/16 finals), the Ukrainians failed to get past Romanian Steaua. In the first match in Lviv, the Ukrainians conceded the only goal in the 88th minute. The return match ended with a score of 3:3.

During his seven years in the USSR Premier League (1971-1977), Volodymyr Danyliuk played 142 matches and scored 42 goals. He is among the top 50 Ukrainian scorers in the USSR championship. He suffered five fractures in his career.

In total, he scored 88 goals in all USSR championships, 6 goals in USSR Cup matches, and 34 goals in international friendly matches at Karpaty. He finished his playing career in 1979. Since that year, he has worked as a coach and teacher at the Lviv School of Physical Education.
