Where to plant cabbage

Owners usually start planting cabbage from mid-April to late May, but some varieties are suitable for planting in the fall. The main thing is to create favorable conditions for the development and growth of the plant.

OBOZ.UA found out what crops can be planted after cabbage. This will ensure a good and plentiful harvest next season.

In the fall, you can plant any kind of cabbage: white cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower. But you need to choose varieties that are mid- or late-season. Early varieties will not be able to survive the cold season.

Prepare the beds for planting immediately after harvesting other crops. Complex fertilizers containing phosphorus, potassium, and organic waste should be added to the soil. This will help restore the soil and fill it with nutrients.

If the soil is clay and heavy, add ash or sand. The best place for cabbage is the place where you previously grew cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, and onions. This alternation will ensure juicy and healthy fruits.

You should start planting cabbage when there have already been light frosts and the temperature has become stable. Dig the beds and sow the seeds, but do not water the soil.

Then make a cover of fir branches, straw or sawdust to protect the plant from the cold.
