Life hacks to help extend the life of towels

A kitchen towel is a piece of home textile that is constantly in contact with dirt. That's why it quickly gets food stains and often has an unpleasant odor that is not so easy to get rid of.

OBOZREVATEL has collected several ways to restore freshness to kitchen towels. With proper care, they will last much longer. And here are the products that will help

Dishwashing liquid

Since dishwashing liquid or gel is designed to combat the effects of food contamination, it can also clean a towel. You will need to soak it in the product before washing it normally.

To do this, apply a few drops of liquid or gel to the stain and leave it to act for 2-3 hours. After such intensive treatment, the towel is placed in hot water. The stain should be rubbed with your hands or with a soft brush or sponge. It should come off easily. Then rinse the towel thoroughly and, if necessary, machine wash it. To get rid of the unpleasant odor completely, the item should be dried in a well-ventilated area.

Salt or baking soda

Light towels made from natural fabrics can be boiled with auxiliary substances such as table salt or baking soda. They will not only help to restore the textile to cleanliness but also disinfect it.

To use this method, boil water in a large saucepan and add 2-3 tablespoons of salt or baking soda to the boiling water. When the product is completely dissolved, dip a towel into the boiling solution and leave it on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. After boiling, the item should be rinsed under cold water and, if necessary, washed in the usual way. Ideally, dry it in the open air afterwards.

Vinegar or citric acid

Washing in acidified water will help restore cleanliness and freshness to colored and terry towels. Add vinegar or citric acid directly to the washing machine.

When washing kitchen towels as usual, add half a cup of vinegar to the fabric softener compartment along with the detergent. Alternatively, you can add 2 small sachets of citric acid to the detergent and mix the products together. It is important to wash in this way in cool water, no higher than 40 degrees.
