How to use orange peels to feed flowers and scare pests away: some tips and tricks

In the winter season, the need for fertilization of indoor plants decreases, as does the risk of pest infestation. But it does not disappear altogether. You can prepare suitable products from organic ingredients yourself. For example, using orange peel.

OBOZ.UA asked for recipes on how to turn this essential waste into a useful liquid. It will enrich the soil with nutrients and destroy spider mites and other pests.

To extract all the good stuff from the orange peel, you can make an aqueous infusion. To do this, put the fresh product in a liter jar, filling about a third of the volume with it, and then add boiling water to the top. This liquid should be infused for a day, after which it is filtered and diluted with clean, settled or filtered water to a full liter. The remedy is ready.

It can be used to water flower pots. But use orange fertilizer no more than once a month so as not to oversaturate the soil, which will be harmful to plants. In addition, it is better to dilute it with water in a 1:1 ratio. It will enrich the soil with calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sodium, zinc, copper, and selenium.

To prepare a natural orange insecticide, the infusion must be prepared in a slightly different way. To make it, you need to take the peel of three oranges, grind them, and pour a liter of warm water over them. This remedy should be infused in a dark place for a week. After that, the liquid is filtered and a tablespoon of liquid laundry soap is added to it. Finally, the resulting concentrate is diluted with two liters of soft water. The plants are treated with the solution using a spray bottle. To completely destroy the spider mite, you will need six treatments at a frequency of once a week. The product will also be effective against aphids and thrips.
