How to get rid of sweat odor on outerwear without washing: quick ways

The smell of sweat lingers longer on synthetic fabrics. This becomes especially unpleasant in winter when you can get very sweaty while "running" from crowded public transportation to work or school.

Of course, the easiest way to get rid of sweat odor is to wash your clothes. However, there can be problems with down jackets and winter jackets: firstly, down or synthetic winterizers can get lost in them, and secondly, they take an incredibly long time to dry. OBOZ.UA figured out how to get rid of the smell of sweat on outerwear without washing.

Method 1

Baking soda acts as a universal odor neutralizer. Experts advise making a paste of baking soda and water and applying it to contaminated areas for at least 30 minutes. Then you should remove abrasive residues with a cloth and water.

Baking soda is also suitable for dry cleaning: it should be used on the wrong side of the item. Gently rub the powder into the problem area and shake it off with a brush after a few minutes.

Method 2

Lemon is also an effective natural odor neutralizer. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon, mix it with a little water and apply it to the stained areas.

Method 3

A somewhat radical method that you should first test on an inconspicuous area of clothing. Mix 1 tablespoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of ammonia in a container. Add 200 ml of water, stir and apply the mixture to the problem areas. After that, blot off excess moisture with a sponge or cotton swab and dry the item. The ammonia life hack is not suitable for delicate fabrics.

Method 4

White vinegar will effectively remove odors if you spray the problem area with a 9% solution. This life hack should not be experimented with on delicate fabrics as well.

Method 5

Experts say that low temperatures will help get rid of odors. You can try putting the item in the freezer for 2-3 hours.

Remember that things still need to be washed or dry-cleaned from time to time.
