How to get rid of food odors in a small kitchen: effective tips
Small kitchen

In traditional apartment building layouts, kitchens were usually not allocated many square meters. The lack of sufficient air circulation is one of the reasons why unpleasant odors often accumulate in small areas.

Store-bought chemical flavors can only make the situation worse. Ideal Home experts tell you how to get rid of food odors in a small kitchen.

Effective tips

There are certain kitchen aromas that are particularly pungent: garlic, fish and seafood, rich seasonings, burnt fat, and fried meat: these smells settle on surfaces and cannot be removed by ventilation only. If you add the smells from the trash, dirty dishes, or an unwashed refrigerator, you're looking at a less than pleasant atmosphere.

Adam Oldfield, director of StovesAreUs, Stephen Horner, an expert at Cladding Monkey, and Sam Wickham, founder of Wilton London, shared effective life hacks for cleaning a small space.

Of course, it's better to prevent a problem rather than fight it. So the first thing to do is to wash dirty dishes as soon as possible, wipe surfaces in time, and take out the trash. The hood will help remove any odors, moisture, and even grease from the air, but it will also become a source of unpleasant odors if not cleaned regularly. The filters should be cleaned every three to four months to ensure effective ventilation in the kitchen.

Refrigerator, microwave, oven, dishwasher, kitchen towels, and rugs are also common sources of musty odors.

Baking soda

This is a very simple but effective life hack. Fill a bowl with baking soda, place it on the table and leave it overnight. The baking soda will absorb those pungent and musty odors. You can also sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the trash can before replacing the trash bag.

Life hack with citrus fruits

Another effective and eco-friendly method is to use lemon juice or citrus essential oils. Natural ingredients will work better than chemical sprays. Pour clean water into a saucepan, add 40-50 drops of essential oil or the juice and zest of two lemons, and boil over low heat.

Recommendations

Coffee

Coffee beans are used to neutralize fragrances during perfume testing. Coffee will also help get rid of any unpleasant odors.

"Coffee beans contain nitrogen, which means they can absorb odors," said Sarah Dempsey, a cleaning specialist at MyJobQuote.co.uk. She advises to put a little unused coffee grounds in a bowl and leave it on the countertop for a few hours.
