Born in Russia, became a widow at 28 and loves "naked" photos: how Tina Karol scandalized the Armed Forces and why she does not celebrate her birthday

On Thursday, January 25, the famous Ukrainian singer Tina Karol celebrates her 39th birthday. However, it would not be entirely fair to say "celebrates" because the artist has not celebrated this day since she was 25. It happened after her late husband, producer Eugene Ogir, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. While fighting the disease, as well as after the death of her beloved, the star spends January 25 working – in the studio, on set, or at concerts – but not at the festive table.

As you know, Tina Karol was born in the village of Orotukan, Magadan region, in the RSFSR, into an engineering family. Back then, however, her name was Tatiana Liberman. On the star's birthday, OBOZ.UA decided to tell her how she renounced Russia, how she buried her beloved husband at the age of 28, and why she was scandalized several times during the full-scale war.

Although Tina was born in Russia, she is ethnically fully Ukrainian – her mother and father are from Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions, respectively. Little Tatiana lived in the Magadan region until she was six years old, after which she and her parents returned to her mother's small homeland. In Ivano-Frankivsk, Liberman attended both a regular school and a music school. She continued her education at the Glier Kyiv State Pedagogical University at the Faculty of Singing, majoring in pop vocals. In Kyiv, she also completed a part-time degree at the Faculty of Management and Logistics of the National Aviation University.

Karol never mentions her Russian past. Unlike many of her colleagues, she stopped traveling to Russia to perform after 2014.

One of the most difficult periods in the biography of the People's Artist of Ukraine is, of course, the death of her beloved husband. Tina secretly married Yevhen Ogir in 2008, and later they got married in the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The same year, the couple had a son, who was named Benjamin. The celebrity family was called one of the strongest and most exemplary in Ukrainian showbiz.

Their happiness was cut short in 2012 when Ogir was diagnosed with stomach cancer. In April 2013, the producer died in the hospital. On that day, Karol was supposed to perform in front of thousands of people. Just before she went on stage, she received a phone call and was told the terrible news. Despite the enormous pain, the singer still came out to the fans, because she was convinced that this was what her husband would have wanted.

After her husband's death, Tina never remarried. She never even had an officially confirmed relationship. However, her fans still dream of seeing the star sincerely in love and happy in marriage again someday. That's why she is actively attributed to romances with either her Moldovan colleague Dan Balan or the bassist from her band Anton Popov.

Meanwhile, Tina herself says that she already has a man in her life whom she loves endlessly. And this is her son Benjamin. The boy turned 15 in November 2023. He is a copy of his late father.

A boyfriend can sometimes be jealous of his star mom's excessive attention from men. But it is not surprising that Karol is so popular among men. She has an impeccable appearance, which she emphasizes with spectacular makeup, and her slender figure with seductive dresses or suits. She often posts quite frank but at the same time beautiful photos on social media. In them, the beauty demonstrates her sexuality and femininity.

Today, on her birthday, Karol is breaking with her own tradition and working instead of celebrating. In particular, the artist premiered the lyrical composition "Roses".

"With this song, I want to fill the emptiness in our hearts so that silence can finally find a soundtrack and a voice. Only those with whom you can be silent and be at the same volume are important," the singer wrote on her social media.

As we have already noted, after 2014, Tina Karol chose her homeland and stopped traveling to the aggressor country of Russia. Her civic position became even more conscious after February 24, 2022. However, there were also scandals during the full-scale war. One of them is related to the singer's collaboration with the Ukrainian brand One by One.

Exactly a year ago, on her 38th birthday, the celebrity presented her first clothing collection, which she had been developing for six months. The line included knitted suits, dresses, cardigans, and even tights completely covered with the abbreviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The purpose of this collection was very noble: the money from the sale was donated to purchase thermal clothing for women in the military. But the sale still raised many questions. In particular, many Ukrainians thought that tights with the Armed Forces inscription were "too much". Karol was accused of speculating on the topic of war and patriotism.

Another unpleasant incident occurred in late August 2023. Ukrainian musician Kolya Serga said that Tina Karol allegedly refused to go to the front with the Cultural Landing Force.

"Someone promised, but did not come. Tina Karol, for example. She constantly refused during the day. She was scared. I understand that there were some reasons, but basically it was fear. Maybe she will join the hospitals," Serhiy said at the time.

However, the artist's fans were very outraged by Serga's words. They wrote a post in which they noted that Tina regularly performs in the hottest spots and supports the military in all possible ways, including by performing on the front line.
