Yulia Yurina
Yulia Eduardovna Yurina is a Ukrainian singer.
Brief biography
Yulia Yurina was born on May 20, 1994 in Anapa in Kuban (Russian Federation).
Since childhood she began to professionally engage in singing and at the age of 11 became the leading soloist of the children's folk ensemble of Cossack songs "Soloveiko" (Anapa).
In 2012 she moved to Kiev, where she studied at the Faculty of Musical Art at the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts.
At the same time, she was a member of the Kiev folklore group "Kralitsa".
In 2016 she became a participant of the show "The Voice of Ukraine", where she joined Ivan Dorn's team. During the show she met Stas Korolev, with whom she formed the band YUKO, which played a mixture of modern electronic music with folkloric Ukrainian lyrics.
As part of the band, Yulina released two albums, DITCH (2017) and DURA (2018), and in 2019 she also tried her hand at the National Eurovision selection with the song "Galina Gulala".
After the group announced its discontinuation in 2020, Jurina started a solo career under the pseudonym YUJ. Subsequently, she began performing under her real name.
Despite her origins, most of the songs that Jurina performs are in Ukrainian. She has also condemned the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine and is seeking Ukrainian citizenship, as she no longer considers herself a Russian.
Yulia Yurina is also the author of her own folklore song course, Gvara, where she teaches the performance of Ukrainian folk songs.
Personal life
Yulia Yurina has been married to Vlad Baidun since 2015.
