Nelly Furtado

The second of December is a very "musical" day. Today we will tell you about Nelly Furtado - she turns 32 years old.

Nelly was born in the Canadian city of Victoria in a family of natives of the Azores. Nelly's mom sang in the church choir - and it was with her four-year-old first went on stage.

Furtado was a very active child: practiced music, played various instruments, took dancing lessons.

At the age of 16, the future star first got to the historical homeland - in Portugal. And it was this trip gave her a lot of impressions, which were later reflected in her compositions.

Nelly seriously engaged in creative work, including songwriting, at the age of 17. Then she moved from Victoria to Toronto and created her first band Nelstar. The guys achieved some success - they gave concerts and even recorded an album and shot a music video. But in 1997, Furtado independently took part in a music competition. True, she was not awarded any prizes, but met with the guys who became her producers.

The next couple of years Nelly together with her representatives sought a contract with a label - and eventually, of course, she achieved it.

In 2000 she released her debut solo album Whoa, Nelly! I'm sure many of you still remember the song I'm like a Bird from that record.

In 2002, Furtado went on her first world tour - and at the same time began recording material for a new CD. The Folklore album was released in 2003. By the way, in the same year there was another important event in the singer's life - she had a daughter. With the father of the baby musician Jasper Gaunya Nelly met for several years, but in 2005 they broke up. And in 2007, Nelly married her producer Damascio Castellon.

After the release of Folklore, Furtado decided to take time out and disappeared from the stage for three years. And in 2006, she released a new CD Loose. Her next work was a Spanish-language album Mi Plan.

Now Nelly is working, but in a rather sparing mode - she records songs, sings with various artists - for example, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland (it was also planned to release her duet with our Dima Bilan, but for some reason the cooperation failed), sometimes appears at social events, but most of the time she devotes to her family. This is, of course, wonderful, but we still wish the singer to be more active. Family is great, but fans miss the birthday girl.
