Nazary Yaremchuk
Nazariy Yaremchuk is an outstanding Ukrainian singer, People's Artist of Ukraine, one of the brightest representatives of Ukrainian pop music. Hero of Ukraine (2021).
Brief biography
Nazariy Yaremchuk was born on November 30, 1951 in the village of Rivnya (now Vizhnitsa), Vizhnitsky district, Chernivtsi region. He graduated from the Chernivtsi Music College and later from the Kiev Institute of Culture, as professional education was necessary to perform on the professional stage.
Nazary Yaremchuk's career began in the 1970s, when he became a soloist of the VIA "Smerichka", one of the most popular musical groups in Ukraine. Thanks to his powerful voice and charismatic performance, the songs "Chervona Ruta" and "Vodograi" became very popular. They became symbols of Ukrainian pop music.
Yaremchuk's repertoire included both folk songs and pop compositions. Among his most famous songs are "Chervona ruta", "Vodograi", "Hai, zelenyi hai", "Rodina", "I will go to the distant mountains", "The song will be remembered by us", "Stozhari".
Nazary Yaremchuk often collaborated with other famous Ukrainian performers such as Volodymyr Ivasyuk and Vasyl Zinkevich. He was one of the first performers to popularize Ukrainian pop music outside Ukraine.
Nazary Yaremchuk was later awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, and later the title of People's Artist of Ukraine. In 2021 he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Personal life
Nazariy Yaremchuk was married to Olga Yaremchuk, with whom he had three children: Nazariy, Dmitry and Maria. All of them also devoted themselves to music. Nazary Yaremchuk Jr. is a singer and composer, Dmitry Yaremchuk is an Honored Artist of Ukraine, and Maria Yaremchuk became a singer.
Death
Nazary Yaremchuk died on June 30, 1995 from stomach cancer. His death was a great loss for Ukrainian culture.
Legacy
Nazary Yaremchuk left a huge musical legacy that continues to influence Ukrainian music today. His name and creativity are remembered and honored throughout Ukraine. In Chernivtsi, in his hometown, there is a monument and a street named in his honor.
