Short biography

Julia Fox is an American actress, model and media personality of Italian descent.

Brief biography

Julia Fox was born on February 2, 1990 in Milan, Italy to Italian mother Gracie and American father Thomas Fox. Besides her, there were two other children in the family. Her parents divorced when she was still young.

At the age of six, Julia moved to New York to live with her father, but regularly visited her mother in Italy.

At the age of 14, Fox returned to Italy as an exchange student and lived with a host family while attending a private Catholic school. However, she was later expelled due to smoking and skipping school. She eventually returned to New York City.

Fox later recounted that her childhood was difficult and even bordered on homelessness, as her father was "unstable and verbally abusive" and her mother was "absent for long periods of time" and they also "quarreled a lot."

From the age of 15, Julia left home to live with her boyfriend, who was a drug dealer. After he went to prison, she moved in with a friend.

As a teenager, she worked several jobs in the service industry, including a shoe store, ice cream store, and candy store.

While attending an inner-city high school, she worked as a dominatrix in the East Village for six months, finding work in the "adult concerts" section of Craigslist.

Fox also abused alcohol, attended parties, went clubbing and was arrested several times.

She was sentenced to three years probation for grand theft and credit card fraud.

After a suicide attempt at the age of 16, Fox was admitted to a mental hospital where she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Fox also developed a heroin addiction. At the age of 17, she overdosed and nearly died.

Fox began her career as a fashion designer and launched a successful luxury women's knitwear line, Franziska Fox, with her friend Briana Andalor. She has also modeled, posing for Playboy's latest nude issue in 2015, as well as exhibiting her work as an artist.

She has self-published two books of photographs and also held an art exhibition called "R.I.P. Julia Fox," which featured silk canvases dyed with her own blood.

Over time, she began working with well-known brands.

Fox made her feature film debut in the Sefdi Brothers' 2019 film Uncut Gems, playing a showroom saleswoman and the main character's mistress. For this role, she was nominated in the Actress of the Year category at the 2019 Gotham Awards.

Subsequently, she continued acting in movies, but no longer had as much success.

In 2021, Fox also wrote the screenplay and directed the short film Fantasy Girls, about a group of teenage girls engaged in sex labor.

In October 2023, she released her memoir Down the Drain.

In 2024, she also made her debut as a singer with Down the Drain, which Variety listed as one of the worst songs of the year.

Personal life

In November 2018, Fox married Peter Artemiev. Their divorce was finalized in July 2020, and their shared son was born in 2021.

In October 2022, she claimed to have experienced postpartum depression and also suffers from bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorder and autism.

Fox was subsequently in a brief relationship with scandalous rapper Kanye West.

In July 2024, Fox publicly admitted to being a lesbian.
