DenysMonastyrskyi was the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. He died during a helicopter crash on January 18, 2023.

Brief biography

Denis Monastyrsky was born on June 12, 1980 in Khmelnytskyi.

Monastyrskyy received his higher education at the Institute of State and Law at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and successfully graduated in 2006.

Since 2006 Denys Monastyrsky has been one of the members of the board of the public association of young people "To the Future through Culture".

Since 2007, Mr. Monastyrskyy has been cooperating as a lawyer with a number of private companies and enterprises.

In 2012, he won the All-Ukrainian contest "Volunteer of the Year".

Since 2015 he has been working as an expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, where he participates in the program of reforming the law enforcement and judicial systems. Denis Monastyrskyy has about seventy draft laws, which he has successfully developed and submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament for approval and voting.

In the so-called "Zekomande" - Volodymyr Zelensky 's election headquarters - Monastyrskyy was in charge of the law enforcement system.

In the Ukrainian extraordinary parliamentary elections, which took place in 2019, Denis Monastyrsky ran for the people's deputies on the lists of the political force "Servant of the People". After the victory of the "Servant of the People" in the elections, he received the mandate of the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the ninth convocation.

In the Verkhovna Rada of the ninth convocation, Denys Monastyrskyy headed the Committee on Law Enforcement.

Avakov's resignation and appointment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs

On July 13, 2021, after Arsen Avakov resigned as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed at a meeting of the Servant of the People faction to appoint Denys Monastyrsky as the new Minister of Internal Affairs.

The vote on Monastyrskyy's appointment took place on July 16. His appointment was supported by 271 MPs.

Helicopter crash in Brovary

On January 18, 2023, Monastyrskyy died during a helicopter crash in Brovary. His deputy Yevhen Yenin and state secretary were also on board with him.
