Oleksa Negrebetsky (real name Leonid Yurievich Dmitrenko) is a Ukrainian translator and dubbing director.

Brief biography

Oleksa Negrebetskiy was born on October 30, 1955 in the village of Gusakovo, Cherkassy region.

He received his first higher education at the Biology Department of Kyiv Shevchenko State University, and then studied at the Philology Department there.

In 1980-1982 he served in the Soviet army.

After his service he worked at the Institute of Botany, as well as at the Radiation Control Center of Ukrgidomet. In 1984 he was a participant of the liquidation of the Chernobyl NPP accident.

In 1987 he became one of the founders of the Ukrainian Studies Club "Heritage".

Subsequently, he worked as a correspondent for the newspaper of the Interregional Deputy Club "Golos".

Since 1994 he began working as a translator and also as a scriptwriter.

Thanks to Negrebetsky's creative approach, Ukraine has seen colorful translations of such series and films as "Alf", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Shrek", "Cars", "Hunting Season" and many others.

Negrebetsky was also involved in editing the Ukrainian translation of the Harry Potter books.
