Michelangelo Buonarroti was an outstanding Italian sculptor, painter and architect.
Michelangelo was lifetime recognized as the preeminent master of the Renaissance, and his work was considered the highest artistic achievement.
Among his most famous works are the sculptures "David", "Pieta", the statue "Moses" and others. A separate place in his artistic achievement are the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
As an architect, Michelangelo Buonarroti also achieved remarkable success, designing the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, the staircase of the Laurentian Library and others.
