Short biography

DameJoan Henrietta Collins is a British actress, producer and writer.

Brief biography

Joan Collins was born on May 23, 1933. Her childhood fell on the period of the Second World War, but this did not prevent her at the age of 9 years from making her theatrical debut in the play "A Doll's House". It is possible that contributed to this fact that the girl's father Joseph William Collins was a theater agent.

Collins subsequently graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, which opened her way to the British movie.

In the early 1950s, Collins often starred for British pin-up magazines and was even named Britain's most beautiful girl.

At the age of 22 Collins moved to Hollywood, where she was able to achieve popularity. From that time she began to be actively filmed in both American and British movies of the 1950s and 1960s. The period after 1970 was less successful for the actress and even led to the fact that the actress began to star in horror films. But the early 80's gave her the role of life.

In 1981, the second season of the TV series "Dynasty" was released, in which Joan Collins played one of her most famous roles - one of the main antagonists of the show - Alexis Colby. Collins actually saved the series from closure after the first season, as the appearance of her character had a qualitative impact on the development of the plot. She won a Golden Globe Award in 1983 for her performance in this role, and also became the highest paid actress on television. In the same year, she received her star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

In 1985, the actress was awarded the People's choice award as the favorite TV star.

The Dynasty series continued until 1989, and in 1991, its characters also returned in a miniseries that concluded the project's story.

By the late 1980s, Collins had also begun writing books. Although her first novel, Prime Time, was criticized, it managed to become a bestseller and paved the way for the release of new books by the actress, as well as autobiographies.

After the completion of Dynasty, the actress became more involved in theater. Although still occasionally appeared in movies.

In 2015, Collins was awarded the Order of the British Empire and received the title of Dame.

In 2024, the actress still continues to work in movies.

Personal life

The image of the femme fatale, often embodied on screen by Joan Collins, was also her own image, which can be confirmed by her five marriages. The actress has three children from different spouses.

The actress married her most recent husband, theater manager Percy Gibson, 32 years her junior, in 2002.

Collins is the godmother of model and actress Cara Delevingne.
