Alain B erset is the President of Switzerland, a member of the Social Democratic Party.

Brief biography

Alain Berset was born on April 9, 1972 in Fribourg (Switzerland).

He received his higher education at the University of Neuchâtel, where he studied political science and economics. In 1996 he received a master's degree in political science. In 2005 he also received a doctorate in economics.

Berce is the author of several books and dozens of articles on economic development, migration and regional development.

Since 2003, Berset has been a member of the Council of Cantons of the Swiss Parliament.

In 2006, he became Deputy Chairman of the Social Democratic Caucus in the Swiss Parliament. In 2008-2009 he was President of the Council of Cantons.

Subsequently, he was also a member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

In 2017, he served as Vice President of Switzerland (a candidate for this position is elected for a one-year term). He received the position of Vice President for the second time in 2022.

Became President of Switzerland in 2018 (the candidate for the position is elected for a one-year term). Became president for the second time on January 1, 2023 (the cadence will last until December 31, 2023).
