Former first deputy minister of defence Ivaschenko declares hunger strike
Former First Deputy Defense Minister Valerii Ivaschenko has declared a hunger strike, he said during a hearing in his case at the Kyiv Pecherskyi District Court.
He explained that the hunger strike was declared due to the fact that the court did not grant the motion to change his restraint.
Ivaschenko also said that he would write a respective statement to the detention facility management.
In addition, the former first deputy minister stated the withdrawal of the court and the prosecution.
Ivaschenko also started a hunger strike in protest against the biased and prejudiced consideration of his case, and due to the fact that he was not given an opportunity for proper medical examination and treatment.
The ex-minister declared hunger strike for an indefinite period.
He was charged as in November 2009, occupying the position of Acting Minister of Defence, he abused office signing the plan regarding the sale of integral property complex of state-owned enterprise of the Ministry of Defence called " Feodosia Marine Engineering Works" (the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).
