Parliament Elected New Ombudsman
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Valeria Lutkovska the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
According to the press office of the parliament, by secret ballot the candidate has got 252 votes in favour.
As a reminder, the parliament considered only one candidature for the post of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Valeria Lutkovska. Her candidature was submitted by the parliamentary majority.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee for Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations did not support Lutkovska for the post of ombudsperson.
"Valeria Lutkovska has no experience of human rights activities, which is a prerequisite prescribed by law for a person to be appointed Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, and therefore she can not claim this position. This decision was supported by five MPs with four against," the committee head said on Tuesday.
